Amalfi driving

Does anyone know an alternative route from Amalfi town to Sorrento without driving the winding coast road. Thanks

There is a winding mountain road SS366 over to the Bay of Naples side of the peninsula, then turn left along that not-too winding road SS145 into Sorrento.

Or the winding coast road SS163 east to Salerno, then onto the autostrada A3 under and around the mountains, and then left (west) along the Bay of Naples from Castellammare di Stabia (turning at about Pompeii) along the SS145.

Both of the alternatives in my opinion are not better or easier, and in some ways worse and more difficult than simply following the SS163 westbound into Sorento.

If you want roads that are not winding you have unfortunately picked the wrong destination. There aren't any.

I've driven all of those roads (yes I have tons of mountain driving experience over many many years) and of all of the choices I prefer the roads along both of the coasts of the peninsula better than over the top.

Note that the main issue from May to October is brutal traffic and busses backing up to make it around an obstacle. You can't go fast enough to feel like you are in a James Bond movie. It's impossible. I hope you have arranged parking while you are in Amalfi. Parking is scarce in these towns.
