Amalfi Coast with teenagers in June

Planning a trip for early June 2025. We have approx 6 or 7 days and we know we want to do Amalfi coast, but unsure of where. Our kids will be 13 & 16. We are pretty active but still somewhat nervous regarding the amount of steps based on several reviews. We were thinking 2 days in Sorrento, 1-2 in Capri and the rest in one place or is that too much? Or one place as a home base and then venture out to different towns? We may have to rent something as our budget is under $500/night (my husband would like 1/2 that but it's proving very hard to find) and I know that is difficult for June in that area. We like to explore towns, shop, do excursions, love food tours & cooking classes. My 13yo likes to keep active so a a pool and/or on/close to beach is a plus. We will not have a car. I appreciate any insight. Thank you!

Sorrento for three nights as a base for the Amalfi Coast allows you to start on the flat. We started in Positano and those stairs two or three times a day, are too much. On the first full day, the Salboat Sorento-Amalfi tour (15 persons max.) does it all- stops along Amalfi and back, includes lunch (worth $30/person), and your kids are in the water/on the water- snorkeling equipment provided. Downside is it runs $150/ person. The alternative is the hop on-hop off bus at per person $21 r/t but now you have to foot for that $30 per person lunch. Day 2 Has to be Pompeii? Capri was great for us (but maybe not for the kids) but does work as a day trip from Sorrento by adding a day there. We prefer Anacapri. Delve into Rick Steve's Italy and plan.
