Amalfi Coast Where and how to get there

Here is a two part question. Thinking about the Amalfi coast after spending some time in the Italian Riviera. Which town(s) would you visit and is driving a car the only way to enjoy the coast?

I plan on going to Sorrento. Seems to be the best for seeing Capri, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii & Mt.V.
You can train if its only 2 people, we may drive.

We stayed a week in Positano in 2005 and I really liked it. We visited Ravello, and my husband wants to go back and stay in Ravello.

I didn't think driving was that bad, but my husband says "never again." The bus system and the ferries provide ample transportation between Naples, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Capri, etc.

We stayed in Massa Lubrense (just past Sorrento) - loved the place. We drove all over the penninsula and had no issues at all. It's a bit crazy around Castledemara where you get off the A1/3 to head out toward Sorrento - but otherwise it was great!

Have fun!

We spent a a week on the coast in October, renting a villa in Sorento and driving the coastal and inland towns. The villa was really inexpensive and wonderful. We're fearless drivers, but I really didn't think the driving was bad and gave us a lot of flexibility. (Just don't get and 'American' size caras the roads can be narrow.) We visited Pompei, Amalfi, Ravela (sp?), Paestum, Capri and on and on...

Do you recall where you found the villa? Was it a website? This sounds really nice I like the idea of a base to explore from.

Used Sorrento as a home base in May, 2008 staying at Hotel Minerva. Relied on public transportation/ferries to visit Paestum, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Herculaneum, & Capri. Would not do anything different. Enjoy and safe travels.

Did anyone respond to you regarding which website is reliable on renting a villa?

I haven't got a website yet. Would love any suggestions.

I am looking for a suggestion, too. However, I found summerinitaly.com and it looks as the website slowtrav.com recommends it, which has gotten good reviews from other responses.

Have you heard of summerinitaly.com?

After much research and debating I chose the Hotel Pasitea in Positano. It was so beautiful and the staff super friendly. We had a huge patio and jacuzzi, what a view!!
