Amalfi Coast Tour

We look forward to touring the Amalfi coast in October 2021. Would appreciate your suggestions for a private tour guide. We are a group of six adults. Thanks in advance.

Deb, where will you be staying? Somewhere on the coast (Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano, etc)?

Gotcha. I'll throw this out to you as this company has seen great reviews from RS posters who've used them. It is not a completely private tour but the groups are very small (only 6-8) so you have a decent chance of having the van all to yourselves, and you can't beat the price.

As The COVID situation is fluid, I would contact them to see if they're running these tours currently and/or will be running them in October.

Editing to add: When you contact them, just ask if there will be a guide along in addition to the driver, not that I feel it's a necessity. It looks like there might be but it's a little fuzzy.

Jeff, did you have a guide in addition to the driver or did the driver also fill guide duties?

We used this company:

They picked the 4 of us up from our hotel in Sorrento in a Mercedes Benz SUV and drove us to Amalfi, Ravello and Positano and pointed out some history and interesting facts along the way. In each town he dropped us off city center and picked us up at a designated time, making suggestions on what to see/do/eat. He made lunch reservations for us at a wonderful cliff top restaurant in Ravello. We went up the cost there, and through the mountains on the way back. It was a really lovely day with no worries on our part. The SUV was important as it gave us the high view we needed to see the coast over some walls.

Kathy: the driver was also the guide. There were only six of us in the van, and it worked well. My wife and I sat in the front seat with the driver, which we found to be the best spot in terms of information and view. (No one else wanted to trade with us during the drive, though we offered). At each of the towns the driver did not walk with us into the towns, which was fine.

That's what I thought, Jeff; thanks. The price is too economical to cover the all-day cost of an escort-type guide. As I said (and as you felt) I don't really think one is necessary anyway, although I would do some reading-up in advance about the places on the itinerary. Pompeii? That one can benefit from an experienced guide knowledgable about the scavi.

We were a party of 4 and also were there in Oct. We used www.topexcurisonsorrento.com on 3 different days on the Amalfi coast. Yes, it was a spurge but with 6 of you the shared cost isn't that bad. There is nothing like being able to stop where you want and being able to sit back and enjoy the views. Giovanni is the owner and is actually from Sorrento. He was excellent as well as one of his drivers.

We used Mondo Guides for their Pompeii and Capri day trips
We used Top Excursions Sorrento for our private transfers
Highly recommend both companies

With 6 people you will obviously need a van
