We are interested in traveling from Rome down the Amalfi coast and eventually joining the Rick Steve's Sicily tour starting Sept. 9. We would like to stop at Pompeii, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi Town, Ravello, and Paestum. We are not sure how much time to allot for this pre-trip tour along the Amalfi coast. Any suggestions? Also we would appreciate any advice on travel arrangements from Salerno to Palermo. Thanks.
I'd say you need 3 or 4 days to hit all the sites/towns you listed. Sorrento is a good base.
we are doing this in reverse following the May 20 Sicily Tour. We fly Palermo - Naples after the tour, then bus to Sorrento where we will stay 3 nights. We have one day booked with a driver to visit Positano, Ravello and Amalfi. We have one day free, which may be a trip to Capri. On the third day, we train to Pompeii, where we will meet a guide, tour the ruins, then she drives us to Naples for the train to Rome where we fly home from the next day. This seems to be enough time to give us a taste of the area.
Thanks for the information. Who have you booked for the Pompeii tour and the Amalfi one? We are also interested in hiring a guide for both areas but haven't decided who to use.
Particia, Any update on your plans? I am taking the Sicily Tour late Sept and staying a week in Sorrento seeing the same sites. Have you deided on drivers for Pompii and Almafi Coast?
