Hi all -
We will be travelling to the Coast area in Mid June and would like recommendations which town would be best to stay in and be able to enjoy the area. We are coming from Rome, so we can store luggage there and travel light for a few days. We also won't have a car, so transportation options would also be appreciated. How many days should we plan to stay there to enjoy it!
Positano
Sorrento
Amalfi
Capri

How many nights do you anticipate spending in that area?
Capri is an island, so day trips to the other places you mentioned would inevitably require two ferry rides. There would be a limit to how many times I'd want to do that.

How long you want to stay and what are your priorities to see and do are important to answer your questions. It's definitely not a 1 or 2 night stay. Sorrento isn't on the Amalfi Coast but it's a transportation hub to it and also gives you access to sites such as Pompeii. We stayed there for 2 weeks with no regrets. Getting to the AC locations such as Positano and Amalfi are slow, chaotic and frustrating, especially in June as it gets really crowded. I loved Capri far more than anything along the Amalfi Coast and it would be my pick for a 2-3 day stay. If all you want to do is sit, relax and enjoy the view then maybe Amalfi or Ravello, but for me, Positano rates an hour of time and then move on.
If you do choose Capri or the Amalfi Coast over Sorrento give yourself at least half day to get there there and a half day back (minimum) in your schedule because of my mentioned transportation challenges. Your best bet is to take the train from Rome to Naples, from there it depends on where you decide to stay. Options are the local train, ferry or private driver which won't be cheap.
