Amalfi Coast - Sorrento

Hello, I have posted some questions well over a year ago but we had to postpone our trip. Now the flights are booked and hotels ed - i just need to give the actual arrival and departure dates. How many days should i allow for the Amalfi Coast (before heading off to Sicily) - we are thinking 7 full days in Sorrento (leaving on the 8th day) should be enough (with the 1st day resting/exploring Sorrento). We'll be arriving middle of April and would like to see Pompeii / Hercilaneum, go to the top of Mount Vesuvius, visit Capri (allowing a full day), Positano and Amalfi and tour Paestum. I have been told that at this time of the year i can forget about swimming in the ocean but maybe just strolling around a few beaches may be quite nice (we love the ocean and even though we have it at our "doorstep" in Vancouver, we still find it romantic in other locations too). We are thinking of doing most of the sight-seeing with one of the recommended private taxi companies. We do NOT want to get into Naples (our flight arrives there in the evening) and we are not "shoppers" Thanks for any help and info.

I spend five days last April in Sorrento. I think it is enough. However, I did not visit Paestum. My recommendation. Pompeii /Hercilaneum. one day Capri. One day Positano.( Beach) One day. Amalfi and Ravello. One day. Paestum. One day. Sorrento. One day. Total six days.
Have a good trip!

we spent 4 nights/3 days based in sorrento. did one day along amalfi coast and to paestum, one to naples, one to pompeii/mt vesuvius. the coast trip was fast. i would recommend at minimum 4-5 full days if you skip naples but want to see herculaneum and capri and take a more leisurely pace along the coast. btw paestum was great and i do regret not seeing herculaneum. have fun. ciao!

We are going at the same time you are. We originally had planned 7 days to see all these is to see in that area but we found out that on the 25th(I believe) is Italy's independence day and I read about the festivals they have at this time so we stayed 8 nights so we could be in Sorrento for this day. I would have to look at my itinerary but it is the 24th or 25th but I believe the 25th. I am sure other cities celebrate so you may check out where you will be on this day.

We spent 4 nights in Sorrento and we crammed Pompeii in 1 day, Capri in 1 day, Positano/Amalfi in 1 day, and spent time in Sorrento on the other day. Keep in mind that these towns are all along cliffs on the shore. They have very steep lanes. If you have a lot of day trips planned, please take into account the uphills/downhills that you may be walking. Also, the paths are sometimes awkward stones of varying heights. Plan 1 day in the middle just for rest & hanging out in town. Your legs will thank you for it. I wish we had 1 day of swimming in a hotel pool or a massage at that point of our trip.

Many thanks for the helpful info (Rick, Carolyn, Barbara and Kristy) and yes, the 25th of April is Independence Day - keep in mind that May 1st is a really BIG holiday in all of Europe. We'll stay for 7 nights and effectively 7 full days because we'll take the overnight ferry to Sicily (instead of travelling by train and essentially "wasting" a day).

My wife and I spent seven nights in Sorrento in September. We are going back for another week, but that's just us, we really liked the area. Be sure and take the boat from Sorrento to Naples and spend a day, lots to see. Have a great time.

haven't been that way yet, and hope to go on future trip. Meanwhile, met a guy while hiking in Arizona recently and he has guided several trips to Italy. He said there is beautiful hiking in Capri. Sounds like he was on a path in some kind of large park. Said it was not crowded (was there in the summer) and really beautiful.
Maybe someone else can name it. I'm thinking something like Arboria or arcoria....?
