Amalfi coast , Rome, Amalfi coast

We are now planning 3 nights in Rome, drive to Salerno for 2 nights, and then train or drive to Sienna or there abouts for day trips to visit Florence, Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano, Cortona or other suggestions you might have. Train or drive back to Rome for flight home. We are going on Sept. 19 -29. Any suggestions or things that would be helpful to know. Thanks

I'm not sure why you would want to stay in Salerno. It's not very interesting. We made Amalfi our base. It's less expensive than Positano or Ravello, and it's interesting in itself - - -cathedral, medieval town, paper mill, etc. It has good bus and boat connections to the other towns. You can dispense with your car and get the bus to Salerno and from there, the train back to Rome. Don't skip Ravello, however. It has a lovely cathedral and two villas with beautiful gardens and magnificent views. Pm me if you want some restaurant recommendations. The food in that area is fabulous.

Agree there's little to see or do in Salerno, but at least you can take hydrofoils from there to Amalfi, Positano, or Capri. Also, the driving in Salerno is easier than on the Amalfi peninsula itself.

Don't miss San Gi. Nice hotels in town.
Don't think you can get there by train.
Do not miss Siena, sit around the plaza
in the evening eat lasagna and see what
may happen, something usually does
ENJOY!
