On my 2-week March trip I'll be staying in Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi after (a pre-paid hotel week in) Rome, but I'm asking for two friends on a 1-week trip who are sharing the Rome week with me: is it reasonable (March daylight-wise) to make a (luggage-free) day-trip such as: train to Naples/Sorrento, bus to Amalfi, and back to Rome hotel? I'm thinking: the Sorrento-Amalfi-Sorrento bus ride would give them two 'wow!' rides on the Amalfi coast road in the afternoon daylight, and perhaps some walkabout time ...then return to Sorrento by daylight's end, then use evening darkness to train (or bus?) back to Rome hotel. Or is there some 'gotcha' transport-wise (given March day lenght)?
..I also meant to ask: although Ferries from Naples or Sorrento may be an option to get to and around the peninsula, isn't it possible that cold or unpleasant seas might find ferries not running? or perhaps a too-chilly water ride? Also, given the short March days, might too much time be lost waiting at ferry docks? Whereas waiting for train or bus transport would at least be 'up' in-town? And if it was raining, bus/train might be 'closer' to the scenery, or not?
In just one day, I wouldn't venture out past sorrento. It's just too much traveling for too little time taking in the sites!
i agree with rome, to much for one day. take in sorrento and enjoy !! good luck :):)
