Amalfi Coast - Positano, Prariano or Ravello

Hi all -

I am trying to plan our honeymoon - a week on the Amalfi Coast in September. At first I was looking to stay in Positano as I love the dramatic coastline it boasts, but hotels are already fairly booked up (and expensive!) and I have also read that it can be quite hectic. We are wanting to base ourselves somewhere for the 7 days and be able to easily visit Positano, Capri, (Sorrento?) and be able to explore the coast. We would also split the week into 2 different locations if necessary.

I have been a lot of research and was hoping to get feedback on staying in Prariano or Ravello instead of Positano? Are these 2 places as beautiful with coastline views and as accessible to the rest of the coast as Positano? Is it as easy to find delicious Italian food? We basically want to relax, eat well, and have beautiful views of coastline/ocean.

(We will be coming in from either Naples or Rome)

Thanks for your help!

Ilana

You are on your honeymoon, you said.
Just tell your bridegroom to fork out the money and stay in Positano, that's very romantic.
Praiano works too, however if you want to visit Capri, the boats depart from Positano.
Sorrento is nice too and it has more transport options. However my preference for a romantic location is Positano.

Ravello is not easily accessible to the rest of the Amalfi coast, as it's not on the coast, but WAY uphill. You have to get to Amalfi town first to get anywhere else.

We stay in Ravello at Villa San Cosma (closer to Ravello proper) or Punta Civita (halfway down the hill) each year that we go. Amazing views from both and much quieter than the tourist hoards of Positano and Amalfi. Also, if you are into cooking, check out Mamma Agata's in Ravello.

You need to be prepared for stairs and hiking regardless of where you stay on the Amalfi coast. If you factor that in then your options broaden. True, the hydro foil to Positano and Capri launch from Amalfi, but it's a 20 minute walk from Punta Civita to Amalfi. We have stayed a week several times at the locations I listed and have had adequate time in the popular destinations and always appreciate coming back to our quiet place in Ravello with a ridiculous view. Add a bottle of local wine and then you have a honeymoon.

Enjoy whatever you decide. And happy honeymoon! We spent ours ther as well. :)

I prefer Praiano or Ravello, Praiano if you want to be near the water. I know a lovely little hotel in Praiano with onsite parking just off the main road, only five rooms and each has a little balcony with sea views. It's called La Maurella.

Quite a few years ago we stayed in Praiano. The hotel was beautiful and the views were stunning. It sits high up from the sea and the perch there is fabulous. Positano can be seen from there and is a short drive down the slope. We booked through Venere.com as we were living in Germany at the time. The village has a nice pottery shop and the people are friendly. The hotel had a roof-top swimming pool. we were there in August while Illuminaria was being celebrated. There is a lovely restaurant about 400 feet away. The church was right next door.
Have a great time! We loved it!
