Amalfi Coast - Path of the Gods

We're going to be staying in Sorrento in early August and are interested in doing the Path of the Gods hike. What is the best route for this? How long does it take? Is it considered a difficult hike, or can inexperienced hikers handle it?

We'd like to stop in the surrounding towns (Ravello, Positano, Amalfi) while we're in the area as well, so suggestions on the best way to do this would be helpful. Thanks!

I recently saved a reply from someone with photos and arrows of this hike, so do a search - there is a LOT of information out there that can help !

Last year, we rode the bus up to Nocelle, and started our hike from there - there are signs right at the bus stop noting Path of the Gods. We hiked down to Praiano, rode the bus into Amalfi, then the bus up to Ravello. We loved Ravello. Then we took the ferry from Amalfi back - such beautiful views from the water ! It was a perfect day !

Look at this for some great info.

I don't know how much time you have, if you start in Ravello
Hike to Amalfi then on to Atrani
Then ferry to Positano you would have time to visit all four towns and do the walk at a leisurely pace. This would be an all day venture.

Figure 3-4 hours for the hike between Positano and Amalfi.
Take water and start early.

Is one direction better than the other if we prefer hiking uphill rather than down?

The site with the photos is giovis.com. He suggests doing the Path of the Gods from east to west. We're headed to the Amalfi Coast in May and hope to do the hike. We'll see if it happens!

there is a book by sunfower publishing that outlines hikes and greades them by difficulty. we found it very helpful.
