Amalfi Coast - October 2018

Hello all! We are heading to the Amalfi Coast early October and looking for advice on:

Private tour guide for 4 persons (use probably for tours to ensure we see all the sights, Pompeii and coast towns)

We were looking to spend 4 nights in Sorrento (good idea or not?) and 4 nights on the coast (Amalfi, Minori, Maiori??) Any recommendations of where best to stay (mid price range - not high end/low end!)

Any input you can share would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!

I like to stay at the Villa Annalara in Amalfi. Convenient to visit other towns and sites on the coast. The hotel is small, run by two brothers who are dedicated to their guests’ experience. You pass through a garden which leads to a tunnel where you enter an elevator that takes you up about six floors to the hotel. There is a grand terrace that overlooks the town and the sea. Rooms are tastefully done and are quite large with views of the sea or the mountains. The brothers were a wealth of information about the area and recommended great restaurants - don’t miss Ristorante Il Tari for excellent sea food.

For touring in the area, consider the Rick recommended Mondo Tours. a lot of posters have given them very high marks.

We had 3 glorious weeks in the area in June with 2 nights each in Ravello, Praiano and Positano, plus 4 nights in Sorrento.

Umberto Limos Positano was great: punctual, new vehicles, assertive but not crazy drivers.

When I go back I would do 3 nights each in Ravello and Positano. Ravello is an idyllic haven with terrific hiking paths going up and connecting to Amalfi, and going down to Minori, etc. La Dolce Vita offers reasonable lodgings for four with great views.

Positano, despite the crowds, was enchanting, especially staying overnight. Villa Rosa has amazing terraces and is the among the most reasonable in Positano. It has a ferry port to get to Amalfi or Capri.

Sorrento is larger with many more hotel options and makes for a nice transportation hub. I wouldn't stay so long here unless you plan to do Pompeii or Vesuvius or Naples from here as well.

Some maybe: 2 nights Ravello; 3 nights Positano (ferry to Amalfi); 3 nights Sorrento (ferry to Capri; maybe also to Ischia).

Enjoy!

We just did this same trip Oct 2017, a party of 4. We used Top Excursion Sorrento for our transfers and day trips. Giovanni was excellent.
