Amalfi Coast introduces alternate number plate system during peak hours in peak season

Severe problems need creative ( severe) solutions.

Adding an exception for tourists to leave on any day looks to be a good idea.

Reminds me of the oil embargo of the 70's and gas station access. Happily one car was odd and the other even.

The alternate plate system is better than a total closure.

I remember in Italy in the 70s we also had the alternate plate system on Sundays. One Sunday only people with even numbers could drive, and the next Sunday only people with odd number could drive.

But before switching to that system they had an even more draconian system in the first several months of 1973/74. Nobody could drive on Sunday, except for emergency vehicles and public transport (including taxi). That was the first drill Italians had of a lockdown. In 2020 they repeated it for Covid.
