Amalfi Coast in November

We want to spend 5 days on the Amalfi Coast in early November. Does the following schedule sound doable? We will rent a car because: We have big luggage due to going on to spend a couple of months with family from this trip--too hard to drag over cobblestones and up stairs.

Fly into Naples, drive a rental car to Salerno, stay 2 nights. Skipping Sorrento as it doesn't seem like there's much to do there in Nov.

Drive to Ravello, stay 3 nights there, then drive back to Naples for return flight.

From Ravello we will visit the gardens and villas and take a hike or two in the countryside. Hotels in Ravello have great views of the coast from up high.

Any suggestions for hotels, activities, and restaurants appreciated!

Do not discount sorrento. It is beautiful walkable and a good place to take ferry to capri or along the coastline south to amalfi. I think u can also ferry up from salerno. If the sea is calm , do this it is breath taking. Ravello to amalfi is a hiking trail but only if dry. Positano is also gorgeous to walk.

Salerno is a large town , yes sorrento is really preferred. As long as restaurantps and hotels are taking reervations i would gomthere. I have only been in summer and spring to sorrento. But i am surprised out crowded it was in april. It made me think that becuz it has such a draw there it has become practically a yr end destination.

We were in Sorrento the first week of November last year. Weather was great except for the foggy gray day when we left. We were happily surprised to find ferries running to Naples and Capri, possibly to many other places that I didn't check. The Rodeo Drive part of Capri had mostly closed up shop for the season, but we were more interested in going up to tiny Anacapri. The tours to Capri ended on the last weekend of October, but it was easy to get there by ferry on our own.

Ravello is a beautiful little town, but the gardens are definitely past their peak by November. We hired a driver for the day for the coast road. Traffic was light, but I was glad somebody else was driving so we could focus on the scenery. Parking looked nonexistent except for taxi drivers, and the drive back to Sorrento was looking straight into the afternoon sun. I thought being on the Amalfi Coast without the crowds was wonderful.

HI! I went to Sorrento in February and I loved it! November should be even better weather wise. I am sure one of the main reasons we enjoyed the city and the area so much is because we chose to stay in "Villa Monica B&B" I can only say wonderful things about this lovely place! (" My home" in Italy! )
You could check out it's reviews on tripadvisor, and believe them!
I could give you more details if you wish .
Congratulations on your trip!

We had a great week-long stay in Sorrento in December one year. It is a great time to see Pompeii and Ercolano as the crowds are nowhere to be seen. It can be cold so gloves, warm jacket and scarves are in order, but you can also have shirtsleeves-type weather and will likely have some rain. Save Ravello for a sunny day and be prepared for a sleepy town. You can still tour the gardens and villas -- you will likely be almost alone -- but there may only be a couple of restaurants open. It closes down pretty tight about Nov 1.

Thanks Laurel! Hopefully we can find restaurants that are still open in Ravello in early Nov. I wonder how we can find out ahead of time. I guess it will be an adventure! If nothing else we can eat n Sorrento and sleep in Ravello. I really want those fantastic views from a room in Ravello!
