I've just learned that a recommended hotel in Sorrento closes in October. Is the weather such an issue that I should skip Amalfi area totally?
No - I was in Amalfi in November of 2007 and the weather was perfect. I did not go swimming in the Ocean.....but did wander around the hills, took the bus along the famous road. Just needed a light jacket.
Have a wonderful trip.
PS- even if it rains a bit - put on your rain jacket, open your umbrella and enjoy....
I was there last October and we had unseasonably cold weather. Locals told me it was like January weather. That being said it felt like a normal fall day here in Oregon so it did not bother us much. I had a sweater and a light rain jacket that I wore and I was fine. Dress in layers and you can be ready for anything.
Thanks very much -- your commentary is exactly what I hoped to hear. I can't wait.
We can do a bit better for you than 2 anecdotal weather observations. If you can put in another 3 minutes of trip research, we can get you an extra fifty or a hundred more weather observations/data points at this weather website, input your location and the time span (up to 2 weeks), and it will give you a summary of the last 10 years of actual weather for your location and the period of time you'll be there.
It's still only long-term historical averages, which are likely to differ somewhat from the weather you actually get when you go--but at least this gives you something more to go on than a couple of anecdotal observations.
Thank you, Kent. Very helpful for now and future use.
