Amalfi coast in late March

Hi, we are planning to go to Rome in late March and wanted to add on a few days to do the Amalfi Coast (maybe stay in Sorrento for 3-4 nights and day trip). I have read mixed things about going to the Amalfi Coast this time of year. Will it be worth it? Will things be open? Will it be enjoyable? Trying to decide if we should add on someplace else after Rome or if this is a good idea. Thanks!

It depends on what interests you. I have been in March several times because I like to hike, and I don’t like to hike in the heat of summer.
Everything has always been open, and since Easter is March 31 next year, be prepared for crowds. You might want to consider spending some time in Naples. But again, it depends on what your interests are.

I agree, depends what your after. Not sure if the coastal ferries will be running, things should be open in the towns, probably not much beach and swimming going on. But, you can still relax, go visit Pompeii or Herculaneum, have pizza in Naples, visit the museum, head to Capri.

Thanks! This helps - we do like to hike and are fine with no beaches/swimming. I just wanted to make sure the town wouldn't be shut down still and things would be open. Thanks for the input!

Sometimes the boat rental places won't rent you a boat if the sea is too choppy. And the Blue Grotto may not be open until April. But overall, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast are very enjoyable in March.

Hi CEM,
Below is a link to the TR that we wrote after my wife and I visited the AC back in March. Patty, Jane, Beth and Tammy here have all read and enjoyed it. It is looooog and mixes music, humor, logistical tips plus plenty of imagery. The title is 'Costa d'Amalfi: a TR'.
Over on Fodors I go by 'zebec'.
You will probably find a few things there to inform your decision making.

*Actually we have also just posted the part two to that voyage, titled 'Beyond Capri: an Ischia TR'.

Tante belle cose!
I am done. the end

**For some reason, that TR seems to appear already halfway-through after one clicks on the link. *Simply scroll back to the top for the proper start. Cheers.
