I need suggestions as to where to stay, eat , etc on Amalfi Coast during Christmas 2008. Do any of the ferries run?? I plan to stay in Rome from 19-23 then Sorrento and Positano or whatever is recommended and return by Dec 29. Hopefully will be able to stop briefly in Naples.

That far south in Italy you will find the weather mild. Been there all through the winter and learned that Mediterranean weather is REALLY mild in winter.
Some of the ferries in Southern Italy run year round. Depends on which one you want.

If you stay in Sorrento you MUST have pizza at Pizzeria Da Franco. It's one of Rick's recommended eateries and was my favorite pizza of all. They are a local favorite and are always packed. Super simple, pizzas served in metal tins, plastic cups, etc but who cares when the food is that good!
It's located right across from the Lemon Grove Garden on Corso Italia (main st through Sorrento). If you are standing with your back to the Circumvesuviana station, go right and its about 2 blocks down on the right.
