Amalfi Coast - how spend 1 week+?

Hi travelers,

We're headed to the Amalfi Coast in a few weeks! Any advice on how to spend our time?
Goals of our trip: relaxing, hiking, eating.

We'll be (bravely) traveling with a 10 month old, who is very easy-going, but need to account for extra travel time.

May 18: Fly into Rome, private car to Positano
May 18-22: Positano base
May 22: Capri? Other ideas? Does it even make sense to visit with baby?
May 23: Capri? Other ideas?
May 24: Ravello? Other ideas?
May 25: Ravello? Other ideas?
May 26: Rome (very familiar with Rome, no sightseeing planned)
May 27: Fly home to Boston from Rome

Thank you,
Meghan

You can easily do a day trip to Capri by ferry from Positano. Looks like a 45-minute ferry ride. No sense uprooting and staying the night unless you are in love with Capri. You might, instead, go to Ischia, from what I am told and have read (sorry I have not been yet) a more charming and less touristed island. Bus or taxi to Naples then ferry to Ischia. See the WSJ article here.

Ravello is divine and worth a visit as well. There are some good hikes and excellent views.

Yes to Capri, but only a day trip, no need for more time.

Visit Sorrento once too.

Revello is very nice, and do have dinner one evening up there.

Perhaps a car and driver to go on down the coast, even to Salerno and beyond, like Paestum, have lunch in Agripoli and then back. 150 miles or so round trip from Positano.

1.Ferry to Capri - there are 5 hikes around the island which offer spectacular views and exceptional photo ops ! And people are scarce ! You should take the gondola up to Mount Solaro for the views and then hike down into Anacapri.
2.Take the cooking class with Mama Agata in Ravello - she is awesome !
3.Hike the Path of the Gods - ride the bus from Positano up to Nocelle and hike down into Praiano. Then you can ride the bus to Amalfi and up to Ravello before taking the ferry back into Positano.
4.Ride the bus from Positano to Minori and Sorrento.
5. Ferry to Ischia !

A few more ideas: Rent a car or get a driver and do the drive along the Amalfi coast. There are a ton of cool little towns and things to see along the drive. I second Paestum - its absolutly amazing and an easy trip. What about a day trip to Pompeii? Its an easy train ride from Sorento.
