Amalfi Coast hotel

I will be visiting the Amalfi Coast for the first time for 3 nights and I will be on my own. The next day, I will depart at 8 am for NAP Naples airport to rendezvous by 11 am with a group for a tour.

While on the Amalfi Coast I was planning on staying in Positano rather than Amalfi because I understand Positano is about 1 hour drive closer which would be helpful for my drive back to NAP.

As I’m new to the Amalfi Coast I have a difficult time picturing the prime desired location for a hotel in Positano- near the water, high in the cliffs, on certain streets? How many steps are too many to have to climb ?

OR am I erroneous and I should consider staying in Amalfi, in which case I will have to start from square 1- ahhhh! Help !

I’ve stayed in both Amalfi and Positano. True that Positano is the prettier of the 2 towns, I prefer Amalfi since it’s less hilly, has better transportation options and less expensive, though it might take about 30 minutes longer to get to Naples. Take a look at Villa Annalara. It’s a small hotel run by two brothers and offers good sized rooms and a terrific terrace overlooking Amalfi and the sea.

Are you planning on having your own car? If so- you might be limited as you will need somewhere to park it.

That said- we chose Amalfi over Positano for same reasons Philip listed.
