Amalfi coast for two days

My husband and I are planning on taking a side trip while in Rome and staying a night in Sorrrento. We want to rent a car so we can see the views from the amalfi coast highway and also think it would be a fun easier way of travel. My concern is will it be difficult to park our car in posatano and sorrento? also, what would be recommended to see if were only there for 2 days and one night? Thanks!

Rent a car in Rome and drive straight to the Amalfi coast. If you have a car you could even consider staying in Positano instead of Sorrento. Sorrento is better logistically because of the CV train, but if you drive, you can stay on the Amalfi coast, which I much prefer.
There are parking lots in Positano, not cheap (€25/day), but there are. Just watch the road, because it's curvy and narrow. Amalfi has also a large parking lot on the promenade.

I agree with Roberto. I like Praiano rather than Positano as a place to stay because it's less crowded. As for what to see, just keep your eyes open. One of your days could include a drive to Paestum (temples, museum, beach).

If you only have two days in the area. Then I would do one day get up early head out to Herculaneum, then Pompeii then stroll around Sorrento in the late afternoon to evening. Stay the night here in Sorrento. Next day take your time to drive the Amalfi Coast then drop the car in Salerno and train to your next destination.

Driving the Amalfi Coast is wonderful and not as terrifying as many people make out. The trick to avoiding the crowds and busses is to get up early and get going. I left Sorrento by 7-7:30am, we had the drive to ourselves most of the day, even when we stopped for a bit to check out a view or a cool little town.

If you are lucky enough to find street parking you can buy tickets to put in your windshield at tobacco shops. If in doubt ask an Italian person this... Mi scusi, signore o signora, Dove posso pagare per il parcheggio? (where can I pay for parking?) Finding street parking is easier done in the less well known towns along the coast. Buena Fortuna!
