Amalfi Coast First Week of April

I've seen the discussion here about the questionable weather in late March/early April,

We will arrive into Rome on Easter Monday. We have 18 days in Italy.
Our plan - Mon-Thurs 4/2-5 in Sorrento/Amalfi Coast
4/6-12 Friday - Thursday - Florence/Tuscany Area
4/13-20 Friday - Friday - Rome

The question is: Are we planning too much time in the AC area? My thinking was that Florence or Rome
will be quite busy still the week after Easter, but I don't want to spend 4 days in a coastal area that typically is
cold or rainy at this time of year.

Thanks for any input.

No one knows the weather, of course, but usually, by early April it is pleasant everywhere (except maybe the mountains).

Four nights is not too long in the Sorrento/Amalfi Coast area. Pick one base and then each day make a day trip, choosing from Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples, Amalfi Town and Positano with the bus trip along the coast, or Capri or Ischia. You can do Pompeii and Herculaneum in one day, the coast trip another, then decide island or Naples or just stay in Sorrento for the third day.

For that time of year--not too crowded yet--these are my choices of bases:

  1. Sorrento
  2. Amalfi-town
  3. Salerno
  4. Ravello

Pros and cons to them all. If you're going to be active & on the move, 1 & 3 are the best choices. For spectacular vistas and to just 'be', I'd pick 2 or 4.

We stayed in Sorrento last March (3/23-3/27/17) and every day - except for our "get away day" (the 27th) - was warm and sunny. On the 27th, it rained in the afternoon while we were in Herculaneum before going on to Naples to catch a 3:00 pm train to Florence. The weather in Florence was equally beautiful from 3/28-3/31. Of course, that doesn't mean that 2018 will be a repeat, but at least 2017 was definitely not cold and rainy in late March.
