Amalfi coast expenses

I am staying in Sorrento for 5 days in late September..already booked hotel; however wished to know average daily meal expenses in this area of the Amalfi Coast. I'll be visiting Capri, Positano also. Restaurant suggestions for wonderful food and reasonable prices would be most welcome!

I'm afraid there's no honest answer to your question. You can still get pizza and sandwiches at reasonable prices. There are wonderful takeaway snacks like arancini - risotto molded in balls around cheese and meat and deep fried.

Restaurants in Positano and Capri will be proportionately more expensive than ones in Rome as in any resort towns with transportation challenges.

Maria,

I can suggest one restaurant in Sorrento that has incredible food and service, but whether the prices are "reasonable" is a matter of opinion. Have a look at Their Website for further details.

I would highly recommend them and wouldn't hesitate to dine there again.

Happy travels!

We loved Da Constantino in Positano. It's pretty far up the hill but had an AMAZING view, especially at sunset. Prices were incredibly reasonable and the food (esp. seafood) was fantastic. Luigi was very friendly and even brought us all free limoncello for dessert. It was about €10-12 per person, including wine.

I'd recommend staying away from the row of restaurants on the beach. They're all pretty expensive and cater to the tourists. Although I hear the restaurant at Covo dei Saraceni is amazing (with prices to match).

We had a tough time finding anything cheap (or even somewhat reasonable) on Capri, besides gelato.

We found lots of great afforadable restaurants in Sorrento. Most we found just by walking around checking out menus. Be sure to drink lots of lemoncello while you're down there!

Maria,
My husband and I stayed on Capri for 4 days in Sept and it is challenging to find a great meal for a reasonable price. They don't call it Rodeo Drive for nothing. We did find a wonderful little market, off the Piazza Umberto in the town of Capri (not down by the harbor) that made fantastic sandwiches and salads. Get a bottle of wine from this same shop and find your way over to the south shore near the Marina Piccolo for a picnic and you will be rewarded with spectacular views - Faraglioni Rocks and the Amalfi coast in the distance. Heaven!! We had more fun eating like this than we did in the restaurants. Maybe you'll like it too - have a great trip!
