Does anyone have any recommendations for daytrips from Rome to the Amalfi Coast? Yes, we understand it will be a really long day.
What time of year?
If ferries are running I would take fast train from Rome to Salerno then ferry hop to Amalfi and Positano
Or skip Positano and go up to Ravello from Amalfi then ferry back to Salerno
If you wanted Pompeii ( not n Amalfi coast) and don’t want DIY
Take a look at Walks of Italy
https://www.walksofitaly.com/pompeii-tours/
Do you hope to include Pompeii or Naples? 49-passenger bus, minivan, or private? Price level?
Please be more specific, and include your interests, budget, and number of people. Have you been to the AC before? Travel experience?
Also do a Search here, as there's a wealth of info, as this is a weekly topic. Additionally, read the posts under the Italy section, and perhaps review the RS Guidebook.
Have a great trip!
The only land route to the Amalfi Coast is the 40 kilometres (25 mi) long Amalfi Drive (Strada Statale 163) which runs along the coastline from the town of Vietri sul Mare in the east to Positano in the west.
You plan to just cruise ( by road or by sea) the route or do you have a specific destination town in mind?
Hopefully you have nothing scheduled early the day following this excursion.
Thank you all for your great questions and ideas. We will be in Rome in early October of this year. In 2013 we took a bus tour along the Amalfi Coast. This time we would like to have an opportunity to visit Positano (other towns too if it works out but not Pompeii). If possible, we would like to take a ferry ride along the coast. At this time, we are exploring transportation options - from private tour to the train. Since we have already driven the coast in a bus, no need to do that again. ;-)
We will search the forum and Rick's guide.
