For the last leg of our trip, we are basing out of Sorrento. If on our last day we want to see Amalfi Coast via SITA and then take train from Salerno back to Rome, what would be the recommended schedule? (Time allotment per town, etc.) Our flight out of Rome the next day leaves around noon. Just exploring possibilities... (BTW, luggage is not a factor - leaving it in Rome) Thanks.
Susan; Here is a schedule for November that I found, based out of Amalfi, so you have to piece together the Sorento to Salerno trip. http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campania/orarioCA2007/QuadroXV.pdf It looks like about 3 hours travel time with no stops, and even in Winter, fairly frequent buses. If you found a late afternoon train and left Sorrento at 7:00, you could have 4 to 6 hours of stops along the way without much trouble.
Thanks, Paul. We will get a early start and leave Salerno 5-6pm. Any guidance on how much time to allot in the AC towns? I presume we want time in Positano and Amalfi - anything else?
If it is after May, you can use the Metrodel Mare that can take you to Salerno by boat. Maybe a nice way of breaking the winding coast.
Take Care.

We'll be there October 19-21. Will metrodelmare be running still? Thanks.
Last year's published schedule was effective until Oct 14.
I can't really help with how much time to allow in each town, we only went to Positano, we got off the bus at the stop, then walked all the way down to the beach. After staying a while we were determined not to walk all the way back up (yeah, we could have taken a taxi) so we took the boat back to Sorrento. As mentioned by someone else, the boat can be a good option for a leg or the whole trip, but since it operates on a much less frequent schedule, you will lose some flexibility.
