Amalfi Coast - Bus, Ferry or Tour Suggestions?

We are planning on seeing the Amalfi Coast by using a Red Bus or MondoGuide bus from Sorrento to Amalfi and/or Ravello. Then take the ferry back. Any thoughts on other options, costs, or itinerary? Thanks.

You don't reveal the time of year which could affect how crowded your choices might be. I can only share our experience in mid May of 2015. We stayed in Salerno, at the base of the Amalfi coast after taking the high speed train there from Rome. I had read about how crowded the SITA buses can get going up and down the coast to the villages. I did not consider a private tour, but we relied on the ferries to get us from one village to another. The view from the water was lovely. There was no problem with traffic jams or overcrowding. The ferries took us to Amalfi (and access to Ravello by means of a local bus up from Amalfi), Positano and Sorrento. There was a ferry to Capri, but we weren't interested in going there. If your trip involves a time of year when the ferries dont run due to weather, then that wont be an option. However, we preferred this mode of transport over being in a bus on the road. Whatever you decide, you will LOVE the Amalfi coast!

I went today with my 19 yr old son. We stayed in Piano di Sorrento (loved that town!). From Sorrento took the SITA bus to Positano. It was so crowded. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I had never experienced a bus the crowded! I felt rather motion sick also. We got off in Positano and walked down to the beach. That was so incredibly cool! The narrow streets, alleys and stairs was fun and amazing. My son is in great shape and I’m active, but for sure WE WERE NOT about to walk back up to catch a bus!!! We skipped Almafi town and took a ferry to Capri, then back to Sorrento.

We used Aldo Limos a few years ago for a day trip when we stopped in Amalfi for a cruise, at the recommendation of friends. We're going back to Italy this fall with those friends and will be taking the train from Rome to Naples and then doing the Amalfi Coast tour with Aldo Limos again. https://www.aldolimos.com/
