Amalfi Coast area

I'm planing to take a 10 day trip (including to/from travel days) to the Amalfi Coast region in September 2025. We are flying in to Naples. After resting and feasting on pizza for 1-2 days, we intend to stop and see Pompeii on our way to Sorrento which we will use as a home base for day trips to Capr and Positano. This decision is based on proximity, cost and mode of transportation flexibility. My question is where would be a good place to stay for the remainder of the trip to take in Amalfi, Ravello and trek the Path of the Gods, starting from Bomerano to avoid the steps. I was leaning toward something that is a little more removed from the crowds and a little more authentic but I want to also be mindful of potential transportation issues. I appreciate your recommendations and basis for the same.

On the AC itself, I would look at Atrani (just a 15 minute walk from Amalfi) and any of the towns at the mainland end of the peninsula with ferry access--such as Minori, Maori. see https://www.travelmar.it/en/index
If you want to limit it to two bases, you could split between just Naples and the AC, as you can visit Pompeii from Naples or in between as you planned. You can visit Capri from Naples or Positano.

S, F, 70+, solo, public transpo and apartment accom.

I was in Sorrento, AC, Nov 3-8. Have been to Capri before and although ferry runs, Blue Grotto stops in Oct 31. Originally booked to stay in Sorrento but when I realized I was going to be one day touring Sorrento and the rest on the AC, opted for Hotel Fontana right at the bus/ferry depot. It was perfect and the breakfast--I put a picture of the breakfast in my shutterfly book!

Buses go west to Positano, the cove at Fuore and east to Ravello, Atrani, Vietri and all towns toward Salerno. Sept travel is not like November so very lucky in that regard so tourists but not mobs, no problem with buses in November and weather was perfect-high 60's, low 70's and for my 30+ days in southern Italy, 1 hour of mist. Look at directferries.com as you might be able to do Capri from AC but by tics right at the port. Atrani is delightful but steep and tiny. Walked there a couple of times after watching Equalizer 3, 10 times, at least! Watch youtube videos to see if Atrani would be right for you as a AC base.
