Amalfi Coast anniversary trip-time frame

My husband I and are thinking of doing an Amalfi Coast trip for our 15 year anniversary. Our anniversary is in December but I'd like to go when it is warmer. We took a Mediterranean cruise several years ago and our stop in Sorrento was one of our favorites and would have loved to see Positano, Capri etc...but there wasn't time. I've only visited Europe during slower travel seasons. Our cruise was in October and have been to France in winter/early spring a few times.

Ideally I'd love to go during shoulder season-either May or September-but seeing as I am a speech therapist in a school district that just doesn't work well. We are thinking of going as soon as the school year ends-so about the second week of June. Would crowds already be ridiculous? I just hear how horrendous summer travel can be in Europe because of the crowds....wondering if this a trip to put off to "retirement" -but we are in our late 30's/early 40's so that's a ways off!

I have been in late May and I don't think the second week of June will be drastically different enough to affect your enjoyment. On the plus side, the sea will be warm enough for swimming. Go now, because it is super popular and will only get more so!

Depends on the definition of 'ridiculous'.

12 +million from the US visit Italy in a year. Like you, many are constrained by school schedule. So end of May and mid-June could have a significant differences.

You will not be alone, but just keep in mind you will be as much the 'problem' as the person next to you.

Waiting 20-30 years so you can go in April and avoid summer crowds is not what I would choose.

What a great reason for a brief visit to the incomparable Amalfi coast and my vote is now! You can adjust your thinking about the aspects that may be less than ideal re time of year and expected busyness of the towns or maybe focus on making it work with what ya got. Slowing down could be the way to address the well known traffic congestion that exists in the area. Finding a spot you want to spend x number of nights can orient how you want to schedule your time. Strategic use of bus and ferry options will help dealing with the crowds. Sometimes this means early starts to your day or choosing late evening options. All doable with the good planning, the right mindset and don’t ever forget, the light packing! Jealous of the fun you both will have planning and going on this trip. Congrats on the 15 years and Happy Travels!
