AMALFI COAST

We'll be staying on the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento) for a week the end of April - first of May. We're planning to take the ferry to Capri for the day but are concerned many of the shops, restaurants, etc. may be closed on Sunday. Is thata good or bad day to visit Capri?

I can't speak for Capri, but we were in Positano on a Sunday in non-summer and found very little open in the afternoon. We regret having spent the time to get to/from there as a result.

You will find plenty open. The season starts at Easter and really gets going around the end of April. Weekends on Capri, especially if the weather is good, are busy with people from Naples and the surrounding towns heading there for a day out. The 26th April (Liberation Day) and the 1st May (Labour Day) are public holidays. If it is like previous years, Sorrento will also be busy and there may be a nighttime concert in Piazza Tasso. Expect firework displays. Dina - depends on the time of year but perhaps you were in Positano during the regular afternoon siesta? A lot of shops in the area close from about 1 pm to 4.30/5pm and then stay open until about 8/9pm. Edit - should be 25th of April not 26th, sorry
