We are current in Sorrento for a few days. We did a small group to from a cruise before. We would like to go back to Positano, Amalfi, and possibly Ravello but looking for a more budget friendly option since this would be a repeat visit. Any suggestions! Is the public bus a viable option?
The bus to Amalfi via Positano leaves roughly half hourly from in front of the Circumvesuviana station. Tickets are sold at the newsstand there, very cheap. See Positano first because if the bus home fills up in Amalfi, it might not stop in Positano. Company is SITA, schedules online. Doesn't your hotel or AirBnb have advice on this?
Get on an early SITA (blue) bus at the Circumvesuviana train station. There is usually a table set up right near the bus where you can buy tickets. As the other post noted, each bus will almost certainly fill up going or coming.
I would recommend going all the way to Amalfi first. You can buy bus tickets to Ravello at the tobacco shop right in the center of Amalfi, then the bus to Ravello leaves from right out front of the shop. Take the ferry back from Amalfi to Positano, and then take the ferry from Positano back to Sorrento as it might be tough getting on the SITA bus.
Seeing just Amalfi and Positano is a lot for one day from Sorrento, so maybe reconsider seeing Ravello also, especially if you plan to visit one or both of the villas up there.
Might be too late but Mondo Guides offers a nice budget friendly tour of those 3 towns
Personally on a repeat visit I would skip Positano and head right to Ravello following directions above for the bus then see Amalfi before catching ferry home
The views of Positano FROM the water are the best part
I like Christine's idea! I don't love Positano at all, my heart is in Amalfi (and a fav hike up to the waterfall out the back!) and Ravello is neat! Positano just makes it more complicated.....and a ferry is almost always better than a bus! Or at least more fun! haha
I think this could work. Take the SITA bus from Sorrento to Positano. Walk around for a hour or so. Then take the ferry to Amalfi to see great views of the coast from the sea. As soon as you get to Amalfi, take the SITA bus to Ravello. The Amalfi bus stop is right by the marina and there are SITA employees around to ask questions so this is easy. In Ravello visit Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone. The Ravello visit could be about 4 hours with lunch. From Ravello take the bus back to Amalfi, visit Amalfi for an hour or so and then take the bus or ferry back to Sorrento. I think taking a taxi from Ravello to Amalfi may make sense to save time.
