Amalfi Coast

Our family has signed up for a RS South of Italy tour in May 2016. We will have a free day in Positano and we would like to visit the Amalfi coast towns (Ravello, Positano and Amalfi). How do you suggest we get this done in the most efficient way. Should we go on the boat, bus or hire a driver for the day. Thank you.

Ferry or bus to Amalfi, bus to Ravello. Very easy to do on your own.

If we do it on our own do you think that we will have enough time to visit the sites (the two villas in Ravello, the Cathedrals in Amalfi and Ravello and the paper museum)?

Don't know how doable it is but check on the closing times of the churches, many close early afternoon for 2 to 4 hours, and plan your visits accordingly. We got caught out by this in Ravello a couple of years ago.

Personally, I would hire the driver for the day. You are going to see some nice places. Ravello is my favorite. you may want to spend a decent amount of time in these places. With so little time don't use it figuring out bus schedules which always aren't exactly on time and than waiting around for them. Have a nice relaxing time with someone else doing the driving and you just enjoying yourself not worrying about buses.

Ferry and bus schedules.

http://www.positano.com.
Lots of good info on some other things to do in the area.

Ferry... Positano-Amalfi. 20 min. Bus... 50 min.

Bus to Ravello 30 minutes.

You should have plenty of time
3-4 hours in each town and be back in Positano by 8:00 pm.
