Should i stay in Sorrento for my entire trip, 5 days, or 3 days in Sorrento and 2 in Amalfi town
It's a personal preference--some like to do day trips and unpack only once, some like to have a different flavor at night. You could list all of the day trips you will be doing, and that might help us sort through it for you. Also include your entry/departure details.
You’re visiting Italy to experience as much as you can, so (to me) that would be staying in both places.
Oh, oh! This is an easy one! The answer is, yes.
Translation, no wrong answer here and I sure hope it means you do have 4 nights to spend in one locale and 3 nights in the other or you will luxuriate for 6 whole nights in one single and singular (and beyond) special spot in Campania. Color me jealous and have a fantastic trip.
I like to stay at multiple locations, so I would lean towards staying at both. But, what are you planning to do? Is it worth changing locations?
I stayed last year at Salerno for two nights and Amalfi for three nights. That was perfect for the activities I planned which didn’t go farther west than Positano or farther east than Paestum to see the Greek ruins.
I would split them up. Sorrento is a great base for sights on the Bay of Naples, but other than that it’s just a nice town. You can daytrip to the AC from here it’s true, but many, many people will also be daytripping in. When people talk about crowds on the AC, it’s the daytrippers. You want to avoid them and being part of them. Staying on the Amalfi Coast itself lets you enjoy mornings and evenings with very light crowds. And if you wanted to head up to Ravello or something, you’re already several steps ahead of thousands of tourists. Really, staying on the Amalfi Coast increases the enjoyment exponentially.
It’s worth considering flipping the the days based on what your sightseeing priorities are. Or if this is just one leg of a longer trip, considering stealing a day for the Amalfi Coast.
Amalfi is a good choice. You might also consider Atrani, just a short walk up the road from Amalfi. Atrani is somehow still has a local authenticity to it, along with a small sand beach. I loved it.
I totally agree with awrzesinski"s post.
So many posters on this forum say to stay in Sorrento but that is not actually part of the Amalfi coast. Our first trip we stayed in Ravello but we were on our honeymoon and happy to just chill with a couple of excursions. The 2nd trip we stayed in Positano and loved it. The quiet after all the day trippers left was the best part of our trip and the views are to die for.
But no wrong place to stay---it just depends what your interests are.
