First time in Italy! Ending the trip in amalfi coast. Best to stay in Positano? Hotels are either unavailable or too pricey so looking at air bnbs. Any recommendations for private boat tour to Capri for a day? Any tips greatly appreciated!
You may want to look at Amalfi town. It is more central on the AC, and often less expensive for accommodations and dining. Plus it is the transportation hub for the AC. There are high speed ferries that regularly go to and from Capri.
Positano is tiny and crowded and transportation can be a problem, Buses are full as they pass thru Positano in both directions so you may never get a seat! Might be a bit less of a problem in late September.
Ferries are weather dependent and since Positano has a smaller dock they get canceled more often than others from Amalfi for example.
Amalfi is the transportation hub, a bit less expensive as well I believe.
Getting to Pompeii (if you are interested) from Positano is more difficult/expensive/time consuming than staying in Sorrento or Salerno for example.
Another option is Salerno- for sure less expensive. It's a nice town, not touristy at all. Lovely beach/waterfront, good food, some sights. Access to ferries, direct trains to Rome and Naples, Paestum. It would be a long haul to Capri but is doable.
One question is where will you be leaving Italy from? Since this is the end of your trip I assume you are flying to somewhere? If you are departing from Naples or Rome - you must be IN the city night before departure. It is pretty much impossible and very risky to try to make a flight from Positano.
Thank you for the helpful tips! Finally booked our airbnb! Can’t wait!
