we have a family gathering end of october in scotland. we wanted to make the most of our trip to also include a warm-ish spot. been reading about the amalfi coast. we have 4 whole travel days, where would any of you rec. we go? we enjoy sightseeing small villages, shopping, don't expect the beaches to be warm. hear capri is touristy and expensive. do you rec. we train, bus, rent a car or all three? any suggestions are most welcomed for 2 novice travelers.
The Amalfi Coast is not easily reachable from Scotland in October and the end of October is also likely to rain in the Med. There are no direct flights from Scotland to Naples that time of the year (off season) and getting there would require flying to Rome, then take a train to Naples, another train to Sorrento and finally a bus to the Amalfi Coast. One full day will be wasted getting there. If you are looking for warmer climate from Scotland you should look into the Canary Island or the Balearic Islands. I can't guarantee the weather will be sunny, but both Edinburgh and Glasgow have direct non stop flights to both places, year around. The Canary islands also tend to have better weather in October if the Azores High cooperates.
