Amalfi coast

We will be going to the Amalfi coast for 8 days. We plan to spend the 1st 2 nights in Naples and also go to Pompei. We won’t have a car.
Which town should we stay in after those 2 nights?
I was thinking of either Atrani or Minori.
Our trip dates are 10/9-10/16
How do we get around from Atrani or Minori? Bus or ferry?
Thanks!

We are planning a trip in 4 weeks, working on details now. You don't say where you are landing. We are flying into Rome and high speed train to Salerno. Ferry to Amalfi for 4 nights, Capri 2 nights, Sorrento 2 nights and Ischia 4 nights before finishing last few night in Rome to fly home. To be honest I would maybe base in Sorrento as there are so many trip to Capri and Amalfi coast from there, but it depends what you want to really do. We wanted to do some hiking so will have a few days to see villages, hike and a boat trip and cooking class in Amalfi and a bike trip and Pompeii from Sorrento (easy to do). Ischia is really for chill time at end and healing waters. I had really wanted to go to Sardinia and still have moments of trying to change it up, but will wait for next time, We found affordable apartment in Amalfi town with Summer In Italy which is a short walk to Atrani. We are not big city people so we will ship Naples. The buses are very crowded and often are full and do not stop so ferry can be easier, but that is where you want to know what you really want to do before you decide on lodging.

Sorrento is very nice, but bigger and not really Amalfi Coast. We were in the area in November, but not prime season. The ferry was not running. Bus between the cities was CROWDED. Very! So, I like your idea of staying in a smaller town. RS just did an article on those smaller towns (Atrani and Minori, I believe). It's worth going to Positano for a few hours for the gorgeous views. We really liked Amalfi town and Ravello. We didn't go to Capri and saw Pompeii on the way from Naples to Amalfi.

Yes, Atrani or Amalfi will give you the best transportation access, as all of the ferries leave from Amalfi.

I am going in November. Arriving Naples and was going to stay in Sorrento but realized the other 5 days was going to be touring the AC. Will do Sorrento for the day from Naples and then head by bus to Amalfi. That appears to be the town where busses from Sorrento stop and the busses from Salerno in the other direction, stop as well. Staying in Hotel Fontana and the location could not be more perfect.
