We plan to be along the Amalfi coast about Oct 14-17. Are there any "commuter" boats or tour boats in the area that time of year? We'd be interested in going from Sorrento to Positano and/or Amalfi on a day trip.
Although the Metro del Mare hydrofoils stop on October 8, the TRAVELMAR (Cooperativa Sant'Andrea) small ferry boats continue through the end of October to ply the waters between Positano/Amalfi/Salerno-Concordia Dock. This is a useful alternative to the SITA buses (although you'll need to take the bus to get to Sorrento). www.coopsantandrea.it
The seasonal coastal ferry service, Metro del Mare, is due to shut down on 8 October. So you will need to use the Sita buses. They will be on their autumn timetable in October so check just before you arrive for the latest info. http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campania/orarioCAMPANIA/QUADROXIV.pdf
If you intend to catch a boat from Positano and it is the same as last year, the Alicost company run a service out of Salerno along the coast to Capri. It ran quite late into the year, albeit on a reduced timetable. Again, check nearer the date http://www.lauroweb.com/orariotariffe/partenzealicost2010.pdf
