I will be staying in Sorrento, but would like to tour Amalfi coast in June and wondering which is better, tour of coast by boat vs private driver/bus tour? Thanks

Go from Sorrento toward Amalfi by bus (sit on the right hand side) and back by boat. That way you get both kinds of views.

Are you looking for a guided tour or self-guided? I like the idea of road travel along the coast and then taking a ferry back.

I recommend a private tour, because on a bus you are at the mercy of 50 people getting on and off. We did a private tour for 8 (four of whom we did not know) and had a wonderful day, able to stop for photo ops whenever we wanted, change our itinerary, etc. It was beautiful. That said, it is a gorgeous ride up the coast on the ferry. Since you are staying in Sorrento, it would be worth it to spend two days exploring Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, etc. both from the road above and the sea. Have fun!

I reccomend the boat, the streets are very narrow and insidious, anyway the Amalfi coast is one of the kind : )
