Amalfi Boat Tour

Headed to AC soon, really hoping to do boat tour from Amalfi town (we are staying closer to it than Positano) to Capri. Vast majority of boat tours seem to leave from Positano. We found one tour that leaves from Amalfi but only allows lunch on Capri, not a longer excursion. Now wondering if we should just take the ferry from Amalfi to Capri and do our own day of sites there instead of the boat. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Capri is doable, with or without the pre-booked boat excursion. Get there early, cut a deal with a local boat company/captain, and then enjoy the beauty of Emperor Agustus' favorite spot. Get a ferry back in the late afternoon and call it good. Get away from the marina while you are there and enjoy the "oh so Gucci" experience of walking through Capri town. If you have time, go deeper into the experience. Enjoy; don't stress.

I would caution about assuming you can buy a single walk-up ferry ticket ON Capri in high season. You need your returning ticket, to be sure of returning that day. The ferries tend to have poor view opportunities, so if the AC coast views are important to you, consider your original idea. We settled for views from the coast road and AC beach/harbors. Another idea is to take a chance on finding more options when you get to Amalfi. But if you’re not staying in a full-service hotel, you’ll have no Concierge to help you.

We used Gianni’s Boats. We took the ferry from Ischia to Capri and did a boat tour around Capri with a drop off in Praiano. You may want to contact them to see what services they can provide since our itineraries were reversed.
