Amalfi area with toddlers

Ignore my post history on going to Sicily because I don't think it will be a good fit for our young family now.

Questions to those who have traveled with young toddlers. Kids are 1 and 3 years old. We are flying into Rome and getting an apartment for 5 nights on 5/19=5/24. We have been to Rome twice and seen the major sites twice. Not many questions there.

We will then get the fast train Rome to Naples. Plan to go to Ishia from Naples for 4 nights then Sorrento. Question- would it be easier to stay with young kids in Naples for 2 nights before going to Ishia vs daytripping to Naples from Sorrento. We want to see the archology museum in Naples and eat pizza. We've already seen Pompeii and don't plan to go there again with young kids. If we day trip Naples, I'm looking at Ill Nido in Sorrento. I don't know if it's easier with young kids to stay as in towns as you reach them vs traveling longer for a home base.

If we do stay a couple of nights in Naples, any recommendations for hotels around the port? The Rick Steves book is lacking in the Naples/ Amalfi area.
