I've stayed at L'Antico Convitto several times with our two young children and highly recommend it. It's right in the heart of town and the rates are very reasonable. The rooms are fairly spacious and look newly updated. The staff was very friendly toward our children. A highlight for my kids was the tiny old elevator going up to the 4th floor hotel (the hotel is on the 4th floor of a multi-use building)-- it's like an amusement park in itself :-)

I like Trattoria San Giuseppe, across the main street from the hotel and up one of the alleys paralleling the main street. Feels like a local hangout. The paccheri con crostacei is amazing.

Sorrento is a wonderful base. There are wonderful transportation options from Sorrento that you can use to explore the area. Boat, bus, and some train.

Make sure that you go down to the waterfront and eat at the fantstic, but lo-cost, waterfront restaurants.

Rick Steves does an excellent job covering the area, and transportation connections, in his book. Do some reading an see what interests you.

Make sure that your room has AC. We rented an apt when we were there, and it proved to be a great idea.

Hello again,
My mind is confused today, because I read that, amalfi is very crowded in july and august. Therefore i confused. What about cinque terre, portofino or etc.. I think cinque terre is not crowded but it seems to be bored. Could you please give us an advice, will we change the destination from amalfi to cinque terre or others?
