Amafi Coast Hotels

We are going to the Amalfi Coast next spring. Is Amalfi town a good place to stay for a few days? Any hotel recommendations?
Any input is appreciated.

I’ve stayed on the Amalfi coast three times, once in Positano, twice in Amalfi and I prefer staying in Amalfi. One of the major benefits of staying there is that it’s a hub for both ferries and buses to visit the rest of the coast. I parked my car and then used public transport which was a great option.

I highly recommend Hotel Villa Anna Lara. It is a small (6 large, luxurious rooms) family run hotel. The two brothers who own it are dedicated to making your stay be enjoyable. They have parking available and report your license number to the authorities so you don’t get a ZTL fine. The hotel sits high up over the town with great sea views. You enter through a garden walk through a tunnel carved in the rock and then ascend to the hotel via elevator.

My favorite place on the planet is Agriturismo Sant Alfonso. It’s up in the mountains near Furore. The owner is a gourmet chef. Reasonably priced.

In early November 2019: Sorrento at Palazzo Tasso (great staff, location, room & breakfast, tiny elevator, 117 euros 2 nights); Positano at Positano Art Hotel Pasitea (good staff, breakfast & room with view, city shuttle bus stop in front, parts of city shut down, 238 euros 2 nights); Amalfi at L'Antico Convitto (excellent room, staff & breakfast, in downtown, 172 euros 2 nights). On a return, we would stay in Sorrento & Amalfi, day tripping to Positano.
