Alpe di Siusi

I hope to spend a few days in September near the Alpe di Siusi. My husband and I stayed in Castelrotto two years ago and it was simple to get to the hiking trails in the Alpe di Siusi with the bus from Castelrotto. I was thinking of staying in another town this time, possibly Ortisei. My husband will not take a cable car. Does anyone know if there is frequent bus service to the Alpe di Siusi from Ortisei or other nearby towns? Thanks for any info anyone has on this.

Why not stay up on Alpe di Siusi, traveling there by bus? It is lovely up there in the evening after a day's hike.

Lola has made an excellent suggestion. We have enjoyed two stays up in the AdS, although I think more than 3 nights might get old.

You can take a bus from Ortisei to Siusi and then a bus up to the AdS but that adds a lot of travel time.

Thank you both. I never even considered staying right there. I guess I thought there would be more to do for a few days in a town. But it is something to consider.

Take a look at Hotel Seelaus. We stayed there on our Rick Steves 17 Day Best of Italy Tour. It was very nice and was right next to a number of beautiful trails for hiking. Their website is:

We stayed at Hotel Saltria and Hotel Panorama. The latter is served by a chairlift so may not work for you, but hotel Saltria has a bus stop for the #11 right out front.

We also stayed at the Hotel Seelaus during a RS tour. The hotel had a huge dinner buffet that was a nice reward after hiking in the midst of those gorgeous mountains views all day.

Jean references something I neglected to mention: the hotels in the AdS are half-pension, meaning your breakfast and dinner are included. They offer a substantial variety that you won't become bored and it is nice to have that planned for you at the end of a tiring day in the mountains. We also stayed 5 nights once at the Hotel Albion (on the way to Ortisei from Bolzano) and were never bored with the meals on offer.
