almalfi coast

I will be arriving in rome 25th, train to Naples, checking luggage at train station and head to Arch Museum, 2 hours there then back to train, get luggage and jump another train to Sorrento. 4 days in sorrento (hotel recommendations?) doing day trips to pompeii, capri and then just along the coast. Anyone feel that its too much on the 25th coming in that morning from Detroit????

YES!! That's too much for the 25th, and the Iphone3 does not wrk in Italy, the 4s does fine(if expensive); by the time you buya throw-away and load it with minutes you might as well up-grade. Pompeii, Capri and the coast will be plenty-you can do the mueseum another time.

I agree with you on the upgrade $199.00 for iphone 4s. then not to worry about getting a card or whatever. But on the 25th we arrive rome 9:30 a.m....we have a few hours before the 1pm train to Naples which is only an hour. So we will be there by 2pm. The museum is open until 6:30pm and I only want to see a few things there. Don't need to go thru the entire museum. so 2 hours max. it will be around 5pm. Just thought instead of another hotel in another city I would just get to our home base in sorrento. Someone else told me I may be tired however if things don't go as planned. pompeii and capri will be in the days to follow. I have plenty of time for the coast 3 1/2 days.

I would feel far too exhausted on arrival day to enjoy the museum (one of my very favorites, anywhere). I find being indoors greatly worsens my tiredness on arrival day, and being outdoors greatly helps it. So, I would want to minimize or eliminate museum time on arrival day. You know how you react to jet lag better than we do, so base your decision on that. If you don't yet know how you react to jet lag, plan conservatively, and skip the museum (just getting from FCO to Roma Termini to Naples to Sorrento is quite a schlep on arrival day; I'm not sure I'd attempt even that much). Remember, you can easily go from Sorrento back to Naples anytime, to see the museum when you're not tired. The trip is 70 minutes and only costs a few euros. Don't be so sure the museum has only a few pieces of interest to you. There's amazing sculptures on the ground floor, amazing mosaics on the mezzanine floor, and then amazing paintings on the "first" (second to Americans) floor. At least, that's what they had in 1994, when I went. Of course, a friend of mine, who had been hearing my stories for years about how much I loved this place, thought it was only OK.

Jet lag, jet lag, jet lag....I took a tour of the Palatine Hill, Forum, and Colosseum after hopping the hop on/off tour bus once after a flight to Rome. NEVER AGAIN! You underestimate how long it takes to get from one place to another, even in the same city. You will be beat from traveling all night and day.
