We have a day boat tour of the Almafi coast booked in June. We are staying in Rome but wanted to get to the coast for a day. There is a train that leaves Rome at 7:30am and get into Salerno at nine. The boat leaves from the main pier in Salerno at 10:00. It is about a half hour walk from the train station.’Has anyone ever done this? I am wondering if I am cutting the time too close- that is the earliest train from Rome into Salerno. Thoughts?
I think you’ll be fine as long as train is on time and in my experience they always are.
Take a taxi from the station, shouldn’t be more than 10 euros or so
It’s a short walk down to the pier - maybe two blocks. It won’t take half an hour.
I’m assuming “main pier” is different spot than the ferry port( which is just 10 min walk)
OP is meeting the boat in Salerno at 10
Fast train from Rome takes 1.5 hours
OP has booked what appears to be a private tour

Mary, I think they need to give you more detailed info about exactly where you're supposed to meet the boat: I'm guessing it's Porto Turistico Masuccio Salernitano (may also be called Piazza Concordia) - which indeed is a short walk from the train station, and also where some of the coastal ferries depart/arrive, I but I think they owe you more specific directions. I'd contact them with the question? The other ferries arrive/depart from Molo Manfredi, which is a little further walk away, and might also be a possibility for a meeting point for tours.
Assuming that you need to be somewhere at the Porto Turistico Masuccio Salernitano port to meet your boat, you should be just fine with an hour to do that. I don't think it'll take 1/2 an hour to get there; same if it's the other port.
