We are planning a early fall trip to the Dolomites and a must do for me is one of the Almabtrieb festivals. Who has been and to which one? Is anyone the "best"? I will be booking airline tickets and hotel soon but I want to work in around the festivals. We are thinking of staying in Ortisei. Thank you!

I've only been to one, so no comparison for "best" festival. I attended the Almabtrieb at Compatsch in October 2025. Many participants with their cattle; music, food, a few local craftspeople selling handmade items and local honey/herbs/jams. It was a great experience! I see it is planned for October 3 this year. Do you have the Südtirol app? It is very helpful for checking dates and finding activities you may find of interest.
We stayed in Seis and used the lift to get to /from Compatsch. There is usually a reduced price for the round trip lift ticket on the day of the Almabtrieb.
