Alma Domus?

Has anyone stayed at Alma Domus recently? I booked there for June but a recent Trip Advisor review is disarming. Maybe they have gotten run down in the past couple of years?

It has been a few years, but I have stayed there. It is a little "institutional" (like staying in a college dorm room, so I could see where some people might not like it. However, for the price, (and with some wonderful views) we thought it was great. In this price range some people won't like it and post a negative review on trip advisor. However, read all the reviews and take all of them into consideration. I thought the one below the bad review was spot on. Know what you are booking (it is not a fancy hotel-it really isn't even a hotel). I would stay there again. Overall,

Elizabeth,
There are some people who like to bad mouth everything, they are never happy. Look at the majority of reviews and dates. It didn't go from 'immaculate' to dirty in two months.

It is a no frills accommodation but it is clean and well located.

Thank you both for your replies. I feel assured that Alma Domus will fit our needs. We look forward to a great trip to Italy!

Elizabeth,
I stayed at the Alma Domus on 5/11. I booked a double room for myself fully expecting to be charged the 65E rate. When I checked in and the desk clerk saw I was alone he reduced it to 42E. The walls are paper thin so I could hear my neighbors conversations and his hacking cough. But it all quieted down in 30 minutes when they fell asleep. I found that by being friendly to your hotel desk men you will receive great service and a lot of good advice. My guys in Rome Emanuelle, Luigi and Carlo were most helpful.

We loved the Almus Domus. It's hard to get that much character anywhere for such a great price. On reviews such a Tripadvisor, you must realize that what many people call "dirty", others call "patina of age". (I work extremely hard to recreate the appearance of centuries of wear on walls with paint.) I find the appearance of a building that has weathered the years to be very romantic, not dirty. The Alma Domas was as clean as any other hotel, and really, really old, which is why I was so charmed by it. I would much rather stay in a rustic old place (with plain, institutional rooms but a to-die-for view) than any modern sterile place.

Ask for a room with a view. We stayed there last November and our windows opened up over the city. Breath taking. Hint: Don't use the wires on the balcony for clothes lines. They're there to keep the pigeons from roosting.
Enjoy.
