Alloggi Barbaria Room in Venice

Has anyone stayed here and if so, how was your stay? Was it close to St. Marks and valporetti stops? How were the beds? How were the hosts? We're in our 70tys and on a limited budget so we're hoping this is a good choice. We had found a place beyond the Arsenal on the "tail of the fish" near the beach but think that is too far out. Are we correct?
Thanks for any info.

This link should show you where it is in relation to St. Marks and vaporetto stops. (FWIW, it's about a 15-20 minute walk to SM, and the closest vaporetto stop is Ospedale, which connects with lines B, 4.1, 5.1 and 22.)

My husband and I stayed here. While the location was good I did not like the accommodations. In fact we left a day early. It was kinda dirty and the breakfast was terrible. I was noisy too- but that could have just been our room. We could here everyone having breakfast and moving tables around right out our door.

I stayed there for 8 nights last October. I liked it fine, but it is not luxurious. Yes, the breakfast is basic (rolls, jam, yogurt) but for what you're saving you can go outside and buy a better breakfast if that is important to you. I stayed in room 2, and the bed in that room was comfortable, and I did not find the place dirty at all. The host, Fausto, I thought was very good--he responds promptly to emails pre-trip, and can answer any questions you have while you're there (he's lived in Venice his whole life.) I can see if you were a late sleeper (I'm not) that you might find the breakfast noise annoying, as all the rooms open onto the breakfast room. It's very close to the Ospedale vaporetto stop, just a 2-3 minute flat walk (no bridges.) Once you get your bearings, it's about a 10-15 minute walk to Piazza San Marco. I would stay there again. I think it's a matter of expectations--this is a budget place to stay, not the Ritz, but I found it in all ways acceptable for what I was paying for it.
