All Saints Day - Nov 1

Hi all. First off, this is my first time using Rick Steves' forum and I am learning a lot from everyone.

I am starting to plan and set up budget for our trip next year. My husband & I will be in Italy 8-9 days prior to our transatlantic cruise back to the states in November. My question is.... The ship is sailing from Civitavecchia (Rome) on November 1st, which is All Saints Day. Do you think there will be an issue of getting transportation from our Rome hotel to the cruise port that day? I was thinking of booking a private vehicle for the trip. Any suggestions or advice will greatly be appreciated!

hey hey tina0922
where are your days spent in italy cities? we did a 17 day transatlantic cruise from rome to fort lauderdale years ago. we loved it.
a crazy and stressful time getting to port civitavecchia. big student protest near piazza navona and all streets closed, pulled luggage over cobblestones and cops/tank jeeps with guns & uzis at street corners LOL found main street with someone getting out of lone taxi, asked for ride to port, told not his area but will drive us for 140E. we jumped in and off we went for about 1H 15M, haha was so so worth it. dropped us off right at ship, nowdays things are different about where you get dropped off at port and pulling luggage how far who knows.

free registration, find roll calls, ship and post questions. post a question to share private ride and cruisers will jump in to share cost. we wanted only 4 or 6 people, small group with meeting point. we also posted private taxi tours in port stops if interested and worked fabulous. any questions ask me, (what's your cruise ports). ask your hotel for info on private transfers, email them to get cost & pick up time, what time you can board ship to schedule driver. less stress and enjoyable time.

click ports, days in port and how many ships, scroll down to see how many passenger on ships tells you how many thousands of people in same port and how crowded it can be. many wanting the same things to do and see. i did the research for days in port, reserved taxi tour and was very adament on time returning to ship before leaving, never had a problem.
things we planned with some cruisers was a cabin crawl, slot machine pull, martini tasting at ship bar. it was so much fun for activities and meeting cruisers. on a greek island cruise we did a meet up at restaurant/bar night before cruise (about 12 of us) and just enjoy then met on sailaway for cocktails and waving away.
just enjoy have a great time and cruise. i loved our days at sea to relax, swim in pool and sit in jacuzzi

We are flying into Venice for 2 nights, Tuscany for 2 or 3 nights and then Rome for 3 or 4 nights.... then we board the Carnival Ledgend for the 15 day crossing. We visit Cartagena and Malaga, Spain, Gibraltar and Bermuda.

Very excited to go back to Italy. I went 12 years ago with family as part of the land portion for a cruisetour. This time it's my husband of 3 years and his first time to visit.

I am an avid cruiser (70+) and know the ins/outs of that but the land portion is tricky since we doing it on our own and not with a tour group.

Any help greatly appreciated
