We are going to be spending some time in Northern Italy in a few months and have been thinking about spending a day on Rick's "All-Day Lugano Side-Trip". I think that I have all of the transportation details figured out. But - where is the bus station in Menaggio relative to where the boats from Varenna dock? Any comments on this side trip?

The bus stop is up,a bit from the ferry dock. It is not easily seen so at some extra time to find it. We did tne reverse of what u are thinking. It would be gd to allow most of the day for a visit and rd trip.
Varenna is on lake como not on lugano lake. So is Varenna. There is a direct train from Milano to Lugano, every hour.
Lugano is in Switzerland. You may pay in Euro but change will be returned to you in Swiss francs.
Lugano is a very nice small city. Try also Locarno some 40 miles away if you have time.
If you want to go from Como to Lugano try app trenit and you will find it all with price. You may also try Capitaine Train.
There is a direct train from Como.San Giovanni to Lugano. You may have sometimes to change in.Chiasso but not always.
