Alitalia luggage restrictions

We are taking Alitalia from Amsterdam to Rome and they sound pretty serious about their luggage restrictions. Only one piece of hand luggage with the regular 8kg and 55x25x35 cm restrictions.

But it also says: "Briefcases and laptop computers are considered hand baggage and may be brought on board in addition to the limits indicated.
Crutches are also considered hand baggage."

Do you think purses fall under the same category as briefcases and laptops? Or should I try to cram my purse into my carry on? What about dear husbands CPAP?

A purse is considered hand baggage and will be your second allowable item. The CPAP machine is considered medical equipment and your husband can carry that on in addition to his two allowable items. I use a daypack as my hand baggage, this item doesn't have to be a briefcase or laptop bag.

Alitalia can be very strict about size and weight limits fot your primary carryon bag.
