Alitalia Baggage Question/Concern

I will be flying Alitalia and plan on taking 2 suitcases containg pet shampoos (35 lbs. each). (From Miami Airport)

Has anyone had any experience with Alitalia baggage personel and or customs? I need to take these two bags for a trade show and shipping to Italy is so expensive. Any experiences with Alitalia baggage on this matter would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Any other shipping suggestions would also be appreciated.

Thanks to all for helping :-)

No direct experience with Alitalia. Is your concern with the shampoo or lost luggage? If it is the liquid then it may be a problem with TSA. We often check our bikes in a suitcase that, when x-ray, looks like a lot of wires and tubing. When the suitcase is opened, which of often, the first thing the inspectors is a one page note describing what is enclosed, a full pictures, and some general instructions about repacking and closing the case. Don't know if that helps or not, but it always makes to the other end in good shape.

My concern is mainly with the shampoo being allowed to be taken in the luggage. Alitalia 800# said it was o.k. but I did not really get a good vibe. Anyone have any experience with customs with these type of things?

If you have problems with the shampoos it will be with TSA and not Alitalia. It is the US that does the inspection of luggage. Customs in Europe is pretty mild. I don't ever remember being asked to declare anything on entry to Europe.
